In 1996 we first heard about the South-African boerboel and like everyone else we had no idea what they were.

But from that moment on it had our interest. But it still took a few years until the first boerboel came to live with us. When our oldest rottweiler died we decided to seriously look into the boerboel breed. After visiting many breeders, appraisals and websites we took in a puppy: Donna. Although she was a problemdoggy from the start, we got hooked on the boerboel breed. Everything is different with a boerboel, the size, the character, the upbringing, but especially the friendship.

In the meantime the hobby became bigger and bigger and a lot of time was put in. The "KK1" and "breeder SABT",  certificates we already have! We also keep on working with the dogs in a dog school.

Besides boerboelfans we are most of all animal lovers. Thankfully we have the space and time for a lot of animals. Spike, our old threecolour passed away in 2005, Phleur is the rottweiler. Djedda and Jelca are two horses that are enjoying their old age in the pasture and are living the good life with us. Then we also have chickens (brahma's) that deliver fresh eggs every day. The fish and the frogs in the pond require the least attention!

The kennelname

We came up with the name of our kennel ourselves: "Swarte" ('Zwarte' means 'black' in Dutch) because we like boerboels with a strong mask and brindles best. Unfortunately completely black boerboels aren't recognized by SABT yet, otherwise we'd get one of those for sure. The "S" is there to make it look and sound a little more south-african, and the "Tulp" to show that we're chauvinistic! This name has been registered by the SABT and EBBASA.

....... and what our plans are

Our goal is to try and breed a beautiful, healthy and reliable boerboel in the near future, while keeping an eye on the characteristics of the breed.Hopefully in the future our young ladies will produce offspring for the Swarte Tulp-kennel.

If you have a look at our dogs it may occur to that we have a lot of dogs. Still its no big kennel because a few females live with friends of us. We think a boerboel needs a family-life and that is impossible if you have a lot of dogs at your owns. So these females (Bella, Bibi and Mulan) will spend their lives with "fosterparents".

If after two years appears that they are healthy and a gain for the breed w'll try to breed a litter with them. If not, also fine with us........ because they already have a good home!
